Stephanie Rothrock: Class Film 4: Limitless

I really liked the idea behind this movie. A magical drug that enhances your abilities....wow. I am ADHD so this concept is not exactly new to me. This is essentially one long ad for adderal or Ritalin. I constantly struggle with focus and as a result have to put a great deal of time and effort into things. It can be frustrating as we saw in the film. A paper that takes a normal person an hour, takes me for. I couldn't tell you how many days I sat upstairs in the media center for about six to eight hours working on one essay. I really liked the concept of this miracle drug but was also comforted by the side effects that Eddie experienced. It made me feel better...like the film had become more realistic. There needed to be a catch-22 for the film to make sense.

I loved the visual imagery of the film (with the exception of the zooming in the beginning which threatened to make me ill). Everything became more vibrant, making the audience a part of the experience. We got to know a bit of the effect that Eddie felt which was nice. It helped to pull me in.

I really enjoyed the concept of the whole film. I research the paranormal and so the concept of expanding the mind is not new to me. It is said that if we could fully access our minds we would gain superhuman potential. I have seen two representations of this and liked each one. A show called Kyle XY showed one alternative. Kyle was able to jump from buildings, heal people, and levitate. This was a great supernatural take. I did like the mental alternative that was expressed in limitless. His ability to focus, recall details, and access his mind's true potential in both tasks and memory was a phenomenal take on the human mind if fully accessed.

I liked a great deal of the film except for a few characters and particular blood drenched scene that we elaborated on in class. The only other down side is one typical of drug movies....now I want to go out and get my hands on some of the stuff ;)
