“Hamilton has repeatedly said her faith in God and her love of surfing have gotten her through hardship” (Betjeman, 2011). Some of these hardships can now be viewed on the big screen. Though the movie does not hide the religious aspect (and one does not have to dig deep for it like some of the movies we have viewed), this story of Bethany Hamilton is quite remarkable. It is a story of her losing an arm in a shark attack while surfing, but it does not get her down- through her faith in God and perseverance, she takes on major surfing titles. Through the film, Hamilton goes back to one verse, “I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13 ) and as she continually puts her faith in Him, she does get that strength and succeeds.
