Recently, I have been intrigued by the TV show, Modern Family. I have had to keep up with the show for a class but have found the show very interesting as I have continued to watch it. It is a show about 3 different types of families ranging from a gay family, a step-family, and a nuclear family. They are all different kinds of families and they all celebrate family in a different way. They have different ways in which they love each other within family and it completely reminds me of the topic that we talked about in class of the different types of love. Phileo love is brotherly love which can be seen between the siblings of the film. The younger siblings as well as the older married siblings all demonstrate this type of love because they love each other in a completely platonic way. They have no "interest" in each other and love each other because of their blood relation to one another. Then there is eros love. This love, I believe, can be especially seen between Jay and Gloria, the newly married older couple. Gloria is a young Columbian woman with a son, Manny, and Jay is a little bit older than Gloria. He is always intrigued by her body as she is definitely very bodacious. They have a passion for each other, and it is evident that her heritage has a lot to do with how she feels about him and how she displays her love for him. The other couples definitely do, as well, and, in fact, there was a big ordeal that the gay couple had never kissed on the show. There was a whole episode devoted to the first kiss of the gay couple and this proved their eros love for one another. Eros love is the more sexual type of love that married people or dating people can experience with one another. The last kind of love is agape that I don't necessarily see in this show as I see agape love being more from God than being demonstrated by humans.
I love the show, Modern Family, because I see the comedic humor in it as well as the attempt to make America understand that there are all different kinds of families. I do not necessarily agree with all that goes on within the show, including the marriage of the gay couple, but I do admire the ways in which they go about conflict resolution and how family is important to all of them. The parents try to raise their children in ways that are acceptable to the society and they do their best to be good parents. I love the show and I think that it definitely has quality to it.
