Morgan Arnold Dexter (March 2, 2011)
Though this is a television show and not a movie, I feel that the TV show series, Dexter, is worth analyzing. This is a dark and twisted series that is a little more racy than I typically like to take part in, but it has some really intriguing aspects. Dexter, a blood splatter analysis by day/serial killer by night, lives a life surrounded by ritual. He leaves according to “Harry’s code of law.” A code that his adopted father gave him that teaches him how to kill appropriately. He lives strictly to this law as if it is his own religion. Every action is in accordance to the law and he regrets when he breaks it. He also makes the killing process a disturbing ritual. He builds a shrine of the victims that his victim has killed- out of respect for them and torment to the killers. There is such a mix of profane and sacred within Dexter and his lifestyle. The viewer cares for him, yet are horrified by some of his actions.
