Morgan Arnold Northfork (March 7, 2011)

The beautiful scenery first catches your eye in the starting moments of this clip. The clip makes you think that the church is so connected with the Lord’s creation. However, the film is meant to highlight the disconnect. As the pastor reads the passage from Genesis about the flooding, we see this incredible imagery of God’s church with the background of mountains. Almost like they are God’s creation of an alter, symbolizing the magnificence of the creator. Later, we learn the importance of the reading about the flooding- the town will soon be flooded completely.
As the film continues, there are continuous shots of pure symbolic juxtaposition. One example is when the young boy is quickly moving through the still scene of fields with slow moving bison. Again, perhaps a symbol of the fast pace life of man and peace of God’s creation. Another incredible image is that of the coffin on top of the car that is headed into the mountains. This is quite an ominous picture portraying the journey of life to death. It really is just a shot of man in a car taking the casket to new, safe ground within the mountains. However, it gives hope that after death, we head to the beauty and majestic place ascending the sky (as seen through the mountains).
