I am still not positive of what this movie is all about. However, from the moment it begins it is obvious that the setting would tell much of the story. The first shot there is this unexplainable majesty of the desert contrasted with a sole businessman covered in dirt gives off the impression of lost hope. As he begins to walk, there is a contrast between civilization and the beautiful backdrop of mountains. This can represent so many different things, but this man, I think it represents his relation to simplicy and nature, and fear/hatred to civilization. In some senses, this reminds me of the profane (city) versus the sacred. Yet, he is a man going off the beaten path, crossing over man-made barriers. This is a significant and powerful shot. It continues as his walk continues. There is a repetition of man and mountain jetting out behind them. You can tell that he is fearful of civilization, because he is following the phone lines- not the road and again hesitant to approach civilization, since he will not get in the car.
However, we see a different side of him on the bridge. He has been walk with a purpose for hours and hours without stopping. There is thing long shot of him just walking across a bridge. We hear a man shouting, but are not sure where it is coming from. This is a moment where the viewer can connect with the man- wondering what he might do. The only time that he stops is when he approaches the screaming man. This is the first time we see him care for someone else and it is through a simple touch of the screaming man.
